Live vs. Artificial Trees (Proper Disposal of Live Trees)

Fake Christmas Trees and other Health Problems:

Most of our fake trees our made up of PVC material. Fake trees contain lead and other additives. Unfortunately many of these additives have been linked to liver, kidney, neurological and reproductive systems damage in lab studies on animals. Children's Health Environmental Coalition says that fake trees "May shed lead-laced dust, which may cover branches or shower gifts and the floor below the tree." Lead makes the plastic more flexible and reduces the risk of fires so you can find PVC in most appliance cords and in your Christmas Tree Lights. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) PVC is dangerous to human health and the environment throughout its entire life cycle, at the factory, in our homes, and in the trash. There are alternatives that are readily available to almost every use. From safer plastics, to bio-based materials, there is a growing market replacing hazardous PVC product. More and more companies have committed to Phase out PVC products and switch to healthier, safer products. Companies like Johnson and Johnson, Nike, Toyota, Victoria's Secret, Wal-Mart, Honda, and Bath and Body Works to name a few.

The Benefits and Care of live Christmas Trees:

Organic Christmas Trees are a great environmentally responsible choice for the holidays. Trees grown without pesticides are better for the environment and you're not bringing chemicals into your home on a tree. There are many different pesticides and chemicals use in conventional Christmas tree farming, which are detrimental to both the farms, farm workers, as well as our planet.

Choosing an organic live Christmas Tree is a great way to bring nature into your home, in some cases you can even find a tree that still has its roots attached so that you can plant the tree in your yard when the holiday season is over, this is much less wasteful than buying and throwing away a tree each year.

If planting your tree is not an option there are recycling centers near you:
